These top tips come from the Glasgow Service User and Carer Group, based on their experiences of being involved in student education and supporting others to become involved.

  • Training and preparation are very important
  • Know when to use the word ‘no’
  • Take challenges when you feel ready Make sure your information is up-to-date and accurate
  • Take along information about the organisation you’re representing, e.g. leaflets, magazines, newsletters
  • Reflect and respect the values of the group you represent
  • Make it clear when you’re making your own views known
  • Remember that your situation and life will change over time so you’re input needs to change too
  • There can be learning in what hasn’t worked
